Over the past 39 years, Pomona-based Able Iron Works has developed a team of highly efficient experts in the structural steel fabrication and ornamental iron business. Their mission? To provide customers with the finest quality and workmanship—reasonably priced and on time.
Steve Holmes founded the company in 1982, beginning as a journeyman in the industry and then branching out on his own. He says, “As the owner of Able Iron Works, I established the company because of my passion for the iron industry. Over the years, we’ve come to specialize in all types of metal works, including steel columns, metal stairs, railings, ornamental ironwork and much more.”
State-of-the-Art Equipment, Expert Team
Able Iron Works’ facility can handle jobs of any size for commercial, residential and industrial clients, staying current with the latest and greatest equipment and technology. To complement its CNC Ocean Beam drill line and CNC Plasma Table system, the company purchased a Beam Camber machine, a 2020 Python Beam Line machine, and also added a Handrail Plasma Processing machine for precision cutting and fabricating. For the field, Able Iron Works has 25 field workers with six field trucks, two delivery trucks and a crane truck with an employed operator.
Steve remarks, “Our breadth of equipment and expertise facilitates our ability to deliver and install in a timely manner. All trucks are maintained accordingly and are ready to provide service from Southern California to Northern California. We are certain of our ability to satisfy the needs of future customers. The final product, and our own personal satisfaction means that you, the customer, have a product of superior quality.”
Diversified Capabilities
The company’s mainstays include storage buildings, custom homes, bridge work, concrete tilt-ups, multistory steel frame buildings for office buildings, among other specialties.
One project Steve is particularly proud of is a multistory office building Able Iron Works completed for ESRI. “That was probably the biggest project we’ve done, which was a $7 million job. We also do a lot of storage buildings that are in the $1 million to $2 million range.”
Steve remarks, “We’re pretty diversified because we can do everything from houses to commercial—from doing the handrails to the big heavy beams, columns and stairways.” This diversified approach is one of the big differentiators between Able Iron Works and other companies.
Steve notes, “We started out doing the little things and we kept doing more and more of it, which helped to increase our capabilities, eventually moving into the ‘big stuff.’ That’s made us a completely full-service company. With other companies, all they can do is fabricate or all they can do is erect. They have to rely on either each other or somebody else to be a complete company. We, on the other hand, have all those capabilities.”
Continued Growth on the Horizon
Plans for the future are to continue to provide quality work at a competitive price to satisfy the needs of the customer and see the final results of the customer’s vision. Steve adds, “Our hopes are to continue to grow, and to provide a stable work environment for our over 75 employees. We welcome any inquiries and look forward to doing business with you in the future.”
